15 Big Revelations From Guardians Of The Galaxy Trailer 2
14. A Great Mix Of Practical Effects And CGI
With those incredible visuals comes a great blend of practical and computer-generated effects. While characters like Rocket and Groot are obviously computer animated, Gamora and Drax are totally real, accomplished through make-up instead of motion capture. Likewise, the surrounding environments and other characters are given the same treatment. It looks like Gunn has actually built most of these sets, rather than going all green-screen, a la George Lucas. That assists in that "lived in" feel we just talked about, and make the movie feel more organic. The action scenes look similarly realistic, as it appears that Gunn uses CGI only as a way to enhance the visuals; and doesn't use them as a crutch.
13. First Look At Ronan The Accuser
The previous trailer and images from the film were all missing one key element: the villain. While we still don't get to spend a great deal of time with him, we do finally get a few great glimpses at Lee Pace as the villainous Ronan the Accuser. Pace himself has described Ronan as an evil, psychotic monster. While we don't get to see him in action or find out what his motives are, we do see some very imposing shots of him, wielding his Universal Weapon and standing in his dark, necromantic vessel with a villain we have had a chance to see: Nebula (Karen Gillen). Ronan looks like he stepped right off the pages of the Marvel comics and into a big screen blockbuster, blue-skin, dark cloak, distinctive hood and all.
