15 Biggest Box-Office Movie Bombs Of The Decade
8. Dark Phoenix (2019)
Dark Phoenix is a great example of how to not end a franchise. It being caught in the merger between Fox and Disney certainly didn't help, but the final X-Men film was doomed long before that, with major reshoots being required to salvage what director Simon Kinberg had made.
These primarily concerned the third act, rooting the cosmic source material back on Earth, which made for a film that was evidently disjointed and lacking in cohesion. Especially after Endgame dominated the box office, fans weren't eager to see the mistakes of X-Men 3 repeated, and Dark Phoenix bombed straight away.
With a budget of $200 million, the film was the lowest-grossing flick in the franchise, bringing in a meagre $250 million worldwide. That's barely better then Fantastic Four's haul, and it resulted in Disney (post Fox acquisition) eating as much as $120 million. Not great when you've already spent $71 billion.
