15 Biggest MonsterVerse Mistakes (So Far)

5. Godzilla: King Of The Monsters - The Godawful Script

Godzilla 2014

Often, a film is only as good as its script and sure enough, Godzilla: King of the Monsters fell apart thanks to how bad the majority of the writing is.

Most of the characters were under-developed, there's a truly awful surprise villain, Godzilla is barely even in it despite being the title character, the action sequences were dull and there was never a sense of true threat or weight.

Seriously, this is a movie in which much of the globe is devastated by monster attacks, yet this film will make viewers feel almost nothing. Aside from exasperation, that is.

What makes the failure of the film more frustrating is that not all of the writing was bad. The world-building is very solid and, on occasion, there are some legitimately excellent bits of dialogue. Most of these are spoken by Dr Ishiro Serizawa, whose sacrificial death is by far the film's best scene.

Make no mistake, this story had potential to be suspenseful and to provoke thought, but sadly it just didn't come together in the end.
