7. Godzilla - Killing Bryan Cranston Off In The First Half

Joe Brody (Bryan Cranston) was easily the best character in Godzilla and it was a huge shock when he died before the halfway point. After all, Joe featured prominently in the marketing and Cranston was at the height of his Breaking Bad fame, which had concluded the previous year.

Perhaps this was designed as a subversion of expectations, but in this case they shouldn't have bothered. The film suffered from losing its best character so early on and this abrupt switch in protagonist is one of the main reasons the film lost momentum in the second act.

And besides, considering who the mantle of lead was handed to after this character exited the film, it's safe to say everyone was wishing Joe Brody had lived...
