15 Biggest MonsterVerse Mistakes (So Far)

8. Kong: Skull Island - Mason Weaver

Godzilla 2014
Warner Bros.

For all the complaints about this franchise's human characters, Kong: Skull Island managed to avoid this problem to a large extent.

The main characters were a lot better than expected, with Preston Packard (Samuel L. Jackson), Hank Marlow (John C. Reilly), Bill Randa (John Goodman) and even James Conrad (Tom Hiddleston) being a thoroughly engaging round-up, which was a very pleasant surprise.

Unfortunately, Mason Weaver (Brie Larson), an anti-war photographer who is the film's female lead, was an absolute dud of a character and one of the franchise's worst characters by some distance.

Weaver is flatly-written, one-note and largely inactive throughout the run-time, making her a borderline non-entity of a character. She's also a horrendous waste of Brie Larson's considerable acting chops.
