15 So-Called 'Must See' Films In 2015 (That Might Actually Be Worth Watching)

6. Silence

The Hype: After spending years and years in pre-production, Martin Scorsese's adaptation of Shūsaku End's classic 1966 novel is set to start shooting this year, with Andrew Garfield and Adam Driver playing Jesuit priests who attempt to track their mentor (Liam Neeson) down in Japan amid rumours that he has abandoned his faith. Why It'll Probably Deliver: As anyone who's read even a short plot summary of Silence knows, it's a cracking story and should prove an interesting departure for Scorsese, who hasn't tackled material this sedate and non-commercial in years. Simply put, if this one gets shot and released in time for Oscar season, it'd be a huge shock not to see it in the awards race this time next year. Why It Might Not: In fairness, as long as the movie gets made, there's not a lot of worry about. Scorsese has one of the best track records of any director working today (with the exception of his 1972 movie Boxcar Bertha, his entire filmography is Fresh on Rotten Tomatoes), and to see him raking over those classic themes of Catholic guilt that define much of his earlier work once again should be a real treat. But of course, no director is perfect.
