15 So-Called 'Must See' Films In 2015 (That Might Actually Be Worth Watching)

9. Joy

The Hype: David O. Russell directs a biopic of Joy Mangano, an American single mother of three who struck it big by inventing the Miracle Mop. Jennifer Lawrence is, of course, playing the title character, while Edgar Ramirez plays her husband Tony, Robert De Niro will be taking the part of her father, and a role has apparently been written for Bradley Cooper also. Why It'll Probably Deliver: O. Russell has been on a major roll in recent years, with The Fighter, Silver Linings Playbook and American Hustle all earning him, his actors and his movies as a whole a ton of awards attention, and even a little Oscar success. With so much forward momentum, something has to go majorly wrong for Joy to not be in the awards conversation this time next year, right? Why It Might Not: That said, it's entirely possible that audiences and critics may be starting to feel a little tired of the obviousness of the director's casting in his movies, and may be hoping to see him working with someone else and varying his movies up a little. Plus, the movie's clear platform to net Jennifer Lawrence yet another Oscar nomination (and even possibly another win) is sure to rub some the wrong way, given how many consider her "overrated".
