15 Characters That Nearly Appeared In The Suicide Squad
14. Bronze Tiger
When it was announced Idris Elba was joining the cast of The Suicide Squad, the rumour hill speculated the London-born actor was playing Bronze Tiger. Although this wasn't true, he was briefly considered.
Born Benjamin Turner, Bronze Tiger was such a gifted fighter, his skills were known worldwide by the time he was barely an adult. Seeing his potential, The League of Assassins brainwashed Turner, turning him into a minion of evil. Although Amanda Waller's deprogramming team returned Turner to normal, he lost most of his memories. When Waller promised to retrieve his memories if he worked for Task Force X, Bronze Tiger reluctantly agreed.
Yes, I considered him. But I was pretty much only using actual villains (other than Flag), so I ruled him out pretty early. Same reason I didn't use Katana.— James Gunn (@JamesGunn) July 3, 2021
During the writing process, James Gunn decided that his incarnation of Task Force X should consist of 'actual villains (excluding Flag)'. This decision disqualified a lot of potential members from appearing in the film, including Bronze Tiger, since he's perceived as an antihero rather than an outright baddie.
