Quite possibly the example of a how to do a video game justice when adapting it to the medium of cinema. Back before he churned out endless Resident Evil movies (there's probably a metaphor for the undead in there) Paul W.S. Anderson seemingly realised that the only way to do a Mortal Kombat adaptation was to go the whole nine yards. The result was a movie crazier than a sackful of Tom Cruises. The Quote: The whole damn film. Seriously, Mortal Kombat is jam-packed full of memorable scenes and quotes. Christopher Lambert is ridiculous as Raiden: "You're a coward, Sorcerer! Stand and fight!" Johnny Cage is still a sardonic little swine: "Oh yeah. THERE'S your rational explanation!" Even the fight with Goro remains just as cheap and tacky as ever. The characters are all either dismissively sarcastic, or ludicrously serious. It's almost impossible to hate this film, given that Anderson's taking more p*ss than a urinary tract infection. Sure it's unbelievably cheesy, but it's far more endurable than actually playing the game against a younger sibling with a penchant for using Baraka and spam-attacking his 'Mutant Blades'.
