15 Cinema Legends You Won't Believe Have Never Won Oscars
13. Glenn Close
Unlike Farrow, Glenn Close is a six-time Academy Award nominee; the most ever for an actress (along with Deborah Kerr and Thelma Ritter). She's taken home a BAFTA, three Emmys, two Golden Globes, an Obie, three Tonys, and a Screen Actors Guild Award, and has even been thrice nominated for the Grammys, but surprisingly, she's not once actually won an Oscar. In her breakout film, The World According To Garp, Close was nominated for Best Supporting Actress, eventually losing out to Jessica Lange (Tootsie); she would then go on to be nominated for the same award the following two years, losing out to Linda Hunt (The Year of Living Dangerously) and Peggy Ashcroft (A Passage to India) respectively. 1987 and 1988 would then see Close critically acclaimed for Fatal Attractions and Dangerous Liaisons; a stronger favourite on these occasions, she was again beaten by Cher (Moonstruck) and Jodie Foster (The Accused) respectively, these times. It wasn't until 2011 that Close would be nominated again, with her role in Albert Nobbs earning her fifteen major award nominations. Sure enough though, Close lost the Best Actress award, this time to Meryl Streep's Iron Lady. That's just rotten luck.
