15 Crazy Facts You Just Have To Accept To Enjoy The James Bond Franchise
2. Sean Connery Will Never Be Topped As Bond
Sean Connery was the first cinematic Bond and, to the vast majority, remains regarded as the best, bringing the right combination of swagger and toughness to the character without going completely over-the-top as Moore did. Yes, no Bond can be much better than the movies they star in (case in point, Brosnan), but in going out to bat first and enforcing most of the key, iconic staples of the character, it's unsurprising that he's the first face conjured up for most people over the age of 35 when the word "Bond" is uttered. So brilliant and fresh was Connery in the role that it's unlikely any other actor will be able to top him. With the conventions of the character so well regimented, it would take a major upheaval or a supremely daring interpretation to topple him, and though Craig gave it a damn good shot, even his contemporary effort couldn't quite dethrone the original super-spy. And let's face it: even if an actor did manage to find a way to better Connery, would most people really be prepared to admit it?
