1. All Those Expensive Flops Nobody Asked For
And finally, this summer has been an utter catastrophe for expensive movies nobody really wanted falling flat on their faces, certainly more than in recent cinema history if not ever.
The most prominent offenders include The Divergent Series: Allegiant, The Huntsman: Winter's War, Alice Through the Looking Glass, Independence Day: Resurgence, The Legend of Tarzan, Ghostbusters, Ice Age: Collision Course (compared to the previous movies, at least) and Ben Hur.
Why It's Dumb: Hollywood is obsessed with sequels and reboots because it's less risky to bet on prior successes than coming up with something new.
That of course is a totally tone-deaf response to audiences, who may have enjoyed previous movies but have no particular desire to see another one.
All it would take is for one executive or researcher to browse a movie message board to figure this out. Hopefully Hollywood will finally learn that audiences aren't interested in relentless, lazy, committee-designed sequels and reboots that fail to inspire the heart and mind.
