7. The Horrific Doll - Aquaman

Aquaman went down as another of 2018's biggest surprises thanks to a stunning financial performance that made it DC's highest grossing movie of all time. It managed that predominantly thanks to James Wan's enthusiasm for the material and his imagination not to limit himself to already established details in the DCEU.

He also took a lead from Zack Snyder that was very much a positive in terms of referencing the comic books heavily and putting in lots of Easter Eggs and gags. And on top of references to the lore designed to delight existing Aquaman fans, Wan also included a nod to one of his own most famous creations.

As Aquaman and Meera explore the ocean floor at one point, the familiar sight of an Annabelle doll from Wan's The Conjuring movies shows up on screen briefly through the murk.
