15 Insane Shocks & Snubs From 2015 Oscar Nominations
10. Snub: Gone Girl For Best Adapted Screenplay, Film Editing & Original Score
While the debate about whether Gone Girl should've scored nominations for Best Picture and Best Director rages on, it's pretty shocking that its solitary nomination was for Rosamund Pike's performance. The movie missed out on Adapted Screenplay while the inferior likes of The Theory of Everything, The Imitation Game and (especially ridiculously) American Sniper snuck in, and similarly, given how silky Kirk Baxter's editing was, it's also a shock this will be the first of Fincher's four most recent movies not to receive an editing nod. There was much industry praise for Trent Reznor and Atticus Ross' score, also, but it appeared to be edged out by the surprise nomination for Mr. Turner, which just doesn't really make much sense (except perhaps that the aged Oscar voters prefer swelling strings to synth scores).
