6. The Main Family - Dark Shadows
Dark Shadows was possibly the worst film of Tim Burton's career and the main reason why it didn't work was because nearly all the characters are unlikable and this makes the film an unexpectedly mean-spirited and unpleasant viewing. It's impressive in a bad way that Eva Green's villain is the most likable character in the film.
Protagonist Barnabas Collins (an over-acting Johnny Depp), a vampire, murders literally 20 innocent people during the film for food, but doesn't get any punishment for it. Roger (Jonny Lee Miller) is a greedy thief who abandons his own kid. Carolyn (Chloe Grace Moretz) is a tiresome stroppy teenager. Even Dr Julia Hoffman (Helena Bonham Carter) is another unpleasant piece of work who steals Barnabas' blood to de-age herself.
Even the film's more likable characters, matriarch Elizabeth (Michelle Pfeiffer), the film's other kid and Barnabas' love interest (Bella Heathcote) are too under-developed to relate to and as such, this is a film which doesn't give us anyone to root for.
With so much unlikability left, right and center, you'll eagerly be waiting for this distasteful film to end.
