15 Insufferable Movie Protagonists That Ruined Their Movies

4. Die Antwoord - Chappie

Bella Swan
Columbia Pictures

Chappie had misleading marketing. We were sold a film about AI and a child-like robot, but in fact the film heavily focused on these awful gangster characters. These guys, despite being main characters, didn't appear much in the film's marketing and it's not hard to see why. Frankly, had they appeared too much people would've been put off seeing the movie.

Bizarrely, the duo are Ninja and Yolandi, members of the South African hip-hop band Die Antwoord, who play meta-fictional versions of themselves; in Chappie, they are real-life gangsters who do crimes when they're not on tour. These characters damn-near ruin the entire film. Not only are the duo terrible actors, but the characters are excruciatingly irritating from start to finish. Every scene with them in it is painful and to be frank, had these characters been dropped, this overall unsuccessful film might've been alright.

Judging by reports from the set, Ninja was every bit as awful off-camera. He harassed other actors and crew members, especially female ones (he apparently sent pictures of himself receiving a blowjob to at least one woman), and was disliked even by Hugh Jackman, who's one of the nicest guys in Hollywood.
