Blue Ruin marked Jeremy Saulnier out as a talent to keep an eye on, and in Green Room he shows exactly why. The horror/thriller is an engrossing, violent, brutal, and often shocking tale of a punk band caught up in a fight with neo-Nazi skinheads, with Saulnier's taut direction making for a graphic film you'd like to look away from, but can't take your eyes off.

With great performances from all of the cast, including an against-type Patrick Stewart, the movie manages to be incredibly grimy and claustrophobic, and yet there's some brilliant cinematography and set design in there too, and an intelligence that underpins the violence and makes it much more than a gore-fest.

Despite that, the movie boasts only a paltry 7/10 on IMDb, and 7.7/10 on Rotten Tomatoes, despite some critical acclaim, with comments that it's not as good as Blue Ruin, and it never took off with audiences either - the movie didn't even make back its $5m budget.
