Legendary composer Alexandre Desplat was nominated for his 7th and 8th Oscars this year, for his work on The Imitation Game and The Grand Budapest Hotel. Even so, finally winning an Oscar was far from sewn up this year: he could've easy split the vote between his films, allowing another nominee to creep in and win, but alas, he was more fortunate than that. When Desplat's name was announced, the crowd instantly cheered without even waiting to hear which movie he won for, as it didn't seem like they particularly cared. Thankfully, Desplat won for the better of the two scores, The Grand Budapest Hotel, putting another feather in the cap of a movie which dominated the crafts portion of the Oscars this year, also winning for Best Production Design, Best Costume Design and Best Makeup & Hairstyling.
