Leading up to the Oscars, How to Train Your Dragon 2 was considered to be the front-runner for the Best Animated Film Oscar. After The Lego Movie was snubbed, it seemed like a foregone conclusion that Dragon would carry the gong home, but then along came Big Hero 6 and stole it out of nowhere. That's not to say that Big Hero 6 was a total underdog: it was consistently critically acclaimed, yet much like The Lego Movie, just didn't seem to be the sort of frothy material the crusty old Academy members would go for. As it turned out, they proved everyone wrong and rewarded something adapted from a comic book of all things.
