15 Mind-Blowing Facts You Didn't Know About Hamilton: An American Musical
7. A Missing Track
The soundtrack to Hamilton is a thing of beauty, and until the show's addition to Disney Plus was the only way for some fans to get a taste of the spectacle. Once the soundtrack was released, however, it came to people's attention that something was missing; a pretty big part of the narrative, too. The missing scene was that of the death of John Laurens, who was killed during the war.
One of the saddest and most pivotal moments of the show, it seems a bit odd that it wasn't included on the official cast soundtrack, but as it turns out there is a clear explanation, courtesy of Lin-Manuel Miranda.
The reasons were two-fold: first of all, Miranda considers this moment the only "scene" in the show, a moment which has the most impact on stage, visuals and all; and secondly, he considers the scene a "revelation." Saying that he grew up listening to soundtracks, he enjoyed being able to see things play out of stage, and moments like these are much more powerful and effective when you've never heard or seen them before.
Basically, he wanted to keep some of the mystery alive and make sure that the show had one moment of pure shock. He also said, as a whole, that the album is better for it, and that despite fans' sadness he doesn't regret it.
Either way, it's on Disney Plus now, and it's well worth the wait.
