15 Most Controversial Movie Moments Of 2015

3. Han Solo's Death - Star Wars: The Force Awakens

The Moment: Legendary smuggler Han Solo (Harrison Ford) is murdered in cold blood by his son, Kylo Ren aka Ben Solo (Adam Driver), after Han unsuccessfully attempts to bring him back to the light side. Why It's Controversial: Uh, gee, because one of the world's most iconic pop-culture heroes just got killed off without any sentiment whatsoever. It was a hugely shocking moment though has naturally divided the Star Wars fanbase heavily: some expressed great disappointment that Ford, easily the most in-shape and best actor of Carrie Fisher, Mark Hamill and himself, was brought back only to die after spending about an hour on-screen. Others, however, have noted that while Han's demise is extremely upsetting to hardcore Star Wars fans, it did a great job establishing Ren as a villain everyone will hate forever more, and will hopefully mean the filmmakers won't be pulling another Darth Vader on him by bringing him back to the light by the end of Episode IX. More than anything else on this list, it's the scene people will be talking about even decades from now, because it's so shocking and Earth-shattering for the mythos.
