15 Most Disappointing Movies Of The 2020s (So Far)

1. Doctor Strange In The Multiverse Of Madness

And finally, despite the heavy competition in the race to the bottom, the most disappointing film of the decade so far has to be Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness.

Why? Well, with the brilliant Sam Raimi directing, all those awesome trailers and the general pre-release buzz, this sounded absolutely awesome. Instead, we got one of the very worst MCU films to date.

Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Hot Garbage would be a far more appropriate title, since the only mad things about this movie are its many inexplicable creative decisions, such as the beyond-atrocious way Wanda Maximoff (Elizabeth Olsen) was turned into a villain, the overly spoilerific marketing and that ghastly post-credits scene.

In fact, despite what the pre-release hype told us Doctor Strange 2 is actually a very tame, safe journey through a largely uninteresting multiverse that's further plagued by a terrible screenplay, misjudged humour, the bad treatment of most of the pre-established characters that return in the film and a fatal lack of stakes.

In fairness, it's not as outright bad as some of the other movies on this list; Sam Raimi's direction is as great as ever and the cast all do a good job. Still, considering the high expectations most had for it and considering that it dragged the struggling MCU right back down following the excellent Spider-Man: No Way Home, it feels fair to call this the most disappointing film of the decade so far.
