15 Most Exciting Movies Coming In February 2020

6. Birds Of Prey: And The Fabulous Emancipation Of One Harley Quinn - February 7

Birds of Prey Harley Quinn
Warner Bros. Pictures

One of the most anticipated films of the entire year for many, Cathy Yan’s adaptation of the beloved Birds of Prey looks to be a delightful ride with some of DC’s most incredible female characters. Despite the lack of Batgirl (to the disappointment of many, Cassandra Cain is portrayed as a child in a supporting role here) the presence of Huntress and Renee Montoya, on top of the return of Harley Quinn, is enough to get DC fans everywhere excited.

Margot Robbie’s performance as Harley Quinn in Suicide Squad was divisive, with some admiring her balls-to-the-wall effort and delightful enthusiasm, and others finding her incredibly agitating. While it’s unlikely that opinions will her, the film around her looks to be much better this time. There haven’t been any reports of division in the editing room, no on-set stories of scandal and the early reactions have all been positive.

DC’s crowdpleasing superhero films have been more acclaimed as of late, with Aquaman, Wonder Woman, and Shazam all receiving good reviews from fans and critics alike. While some might miss the more ambitious existential attempts at capturing superheroism from Zack Snyder, it’s nice to see another female fronted film in the landscape made by women, especially one that’s allowed to experiment with colour and style in a way that isn’t always a given.

Add to this, appearances from incredible performers like Mary Elizabeth Winstead, Rosie Perez, Chris Messina and Ewan McGregor, and Birds of Prey should be a wildly entertaining ride.
