15 Most Exciting Movies Coming In March 2020
5. Escape From Pretoria
In 1978, Tim Jenkin was working as a researcher for the Institute for Social Development at the University of the Western Cape in South Africa. Together with his friend Stephen Lee, who he'd met in college where they'd together come to understand the naked reality of apartheid, Jenkin was part of a local cell for the then banned African National Congress.
On March 2nd 1978, the two were arrested after a period of long surveillance and imprisoned as terrorists. In December 1979, Jenkin, Lee and Alex Moumbaris broke out of Pretoria Central Prison using handmade wooden keys to nine of the doors that led to the outside, after encountering multiple unforeseen complications and obstacles as well as a few hair-raising situations.
Directed by Francis Annan and starring Daniel Radcliffe and Daniel Webber as the leads, this gripping thriller covers one of the truly great true breakout stories. Containing everything you could possibly want from a movie like this, the only thing that seems unbelievable is when Jenkin's comrades sacrifice their own bid for freedom that he may go free. Seeming so heroic that it had to have been made up, this actually happened in the real-life version of this compelling tale.
