9. Bucky's Death And Return - Captain America: The Winter Soldier
After Captain America has become lost in time, his faith in almost everything shattered, he finally finds his old friend only to be met with a punch in the teeth. Like, an actual punch in the teeth. But also an emotional one.
While Bucky's return is remembered as one of the more emotional moments in the entire MCU, especially because of Chris Evan's stellar sad eyes, it was his death that hurt more for a lot of people.
For one, Sebastian Stan is gorgeous, so losing him from the film for any amount of time is just unforgivable. But two, we barely saw his and Steve's relationship. Audiences barely saw them grow or move throughout the war together. We were shown that they were friends, but we rarely ever got to see that friendship.
And now that Steve is strong enough to take care of the man who helped him all those times he couldn't fight back, he still loses him. He's still not strong enough to protect Bucky, and loses him to icy waters.
Except of course he doesn't. Which is just the tiny twisted cherry topping on this sundae of emotional torment. We know that Bucky isn't dead. We know that Steve is mourning for a man he'll meet again, and fight, and lose.
