4. Logan
With Hugh Jackman’s lauded reign as Wolverine coming to an end, all eyes are on next years swan song sequel. Based (very) loosely on Mark Millar’s ongoing series Old Man Logan, the film picks up with the mutton-chopped antihero in the swings of an existential depression amidst what looks to be a semi-post-apocalyptic world.
The trailer has been universally praised with Logan looking set to be a whole new kind of beast. Gone are all the costumes and levity and, according to the footage, the mutants too as Logan sets off on a road trip with a pretty unhealthy lookin' Charles Xavier to a destination unknown. If the heavy drama and savage violence are anything to go by, Logan looks set to be giving audiences the adult-orientated film they've been crying out for for years.
The individual Wolverine films have had their ups and (absurdly low) downs with Logan looking to be more of the former. Frankly, it's crucial that it be the most upper up the X-Men franchise has seen so far because Hugh Jackman deserves nothing less.
