15 Most Overrated Horror Films Since 2000

10. Piranha 3D

Split James McAvoy The Beast
Dimension Films

Rotten Tomatoes: 74% (Average Score: 6.2/10)

IMDb: 5.4

This one getting mostly positive reviews was very unexpected and quite an interesting anomaly, but that doesn't make it a justified one.

Yes, there's some mild entertainment to be had from Piranha 3D but it isn't very good and it's difficult to defend as anything more than a guilty pleasure. The film's gratuitous adult content (most prominently loads of gore and female nudity) are mildly amusing at times but it all gets old very quickly and the film runs out of gas long before the end, especially since it's got very little in the way of a plot or proper scares.

It is completely baffling that this got a high Rotten Tomatoes score, since it isn't actually a well-made or clever film and, as mentioned earlier, many other, better films have been dismissed for being shallow gore-fests. The original 1970s Piranha is a good horror comedy and is far better than this, but somehow this got a higher Rotten Tomatoes score.

Still, audiences gave it far lower scores, so at least they got this one right.
