15 Most Overrated Movies Of The 2020s (So Far)
6. Tenet
Rotten Tomatoes: 69% (Average Score: 6.90/10)
IMDb: 7.3
Alright, with this one it's understandable why people were lenient towards it. After all, it was the only big-budget blockbuster that came out in summer 2020. That doesn't mean the fairly generous reviews were justified though.
Tenet is the worst film Christopher Nolan has ever made.
Like with many of his films, a second viewing is required to fully understand this ridiculously convoluted movie but on a second viewing, once you do finally get the film's plot, you realize you're watching one of the worst-written Hollywood films of the last few years.
There's no character development, there's no substance and there are literally no stakes whatsoever. Without going into spoiler territory, the film's final act implies that no-one was ever in any danger at all.
And as if all of that wasn't bad enough... thanks to how atrocious the sound design is you can barely even hear the sodding dialogue! Seriously, what a basic thing to fail at.
Even the spectacle isn't as good as you'd expect from Nolan and the entire thing is just a bloated, bitterly disappointing wreck that shouldn't have been let off so easily by both reviewers and the general public.
An Underrated Alternative: Mulan (2020) - Quite possibly the best out of the few blockbusters released in 2020, as well as a criminally under-appreciated flick.
