15 Most Overrated Movies Of The 2020s (So Far)
5. Candyman

The Candyman reboot, which was probably the most anticipated horror flick of 2021 prior to release, got generally positive reviews from critics and that made absolutely no sense. Based on the standards with which we traditionally judge film quality, Candyman (2020) is not a good movie.
It's a painfully rushed, structurally broken mess that delivers some of the most nauseatingly unsubtle social commentary in recent memory and fails to move the story of Candyman forward in a particularly meaningful way.
Nia DaCosta and the cast put in a noble effort and keep the film watchable for most of the run-time, but by the time the film arrives at its awful final act, viewers are likely to be left with a bitter taste in their mouths.
Of course the film does cover some very important subject matter and following the George Floyd Protests of summer 2020, was more topical than ever. Still, as a piece of filmmaking the lavish critical reviews do seem confusing.
Whatever the case, the more mixed reviews from audiences is arguably more reflective of the final product.
An Underrated Alternative: Spiral: From the Book of Saw (2021) - an unfairly maligned spin-off that makes for an absolutely solid detective horror-flick that, believe it or not, also provides a considerably better look at police corruption than Candyman.
