15 Most Terrifying Horror Film Moments Of The Decade (So Far)
14. No Escape (Grave Encounters 2)
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nPmCJ0GqwzkThat Annabelle basement moment is somewhat similar to a scene from Grave Encounters 2, but this one gets under your skin even more. The Grave Encounters films take place in a haunted mental hospital, and one of the creepiest things is that the building itself can mess with the characters by manipulating what they see. This sequence from the sequel takes that to its logical conclusion.
In the original, once the protagonists become trapped in the hospital, they're never able to leave, so you assume that will be the case this time around as well. Instead, our leads run away from a creature and end up...right outside the building. Woah, they actually made it out! For several minutes, you follow them as they drive down the road, grab their things from their hotel room, and are ready to check out. They go into the elevator, the doors open and...they're back in the hospital.
Yes, the entire past two minutes was just an illusion put into their heads by the building in order to give them false hope. They never actually left. It's such an eerie twist that fills you with a profound sense of dread and defeat, being hit with the realization that there really is no escape.
