The ocean is a terrifying place. When you go swimming, you usually can't see much below your feet, so you just have to trust that there isn't something down there ready to pull you under. This scare from the sequel to V/H/S captures that feeling in a way that few films have done before.

The segment Slumber Party Alien Abduction follows a group of kids playing around a lake during the summer. They're jumping off a dock, shooting water guns at each other, and it's all good fun. One of the boys is filming everything with a waterproof camera, and after spraying his friends a bunch, he dives under the surface. It's dark and murky all around, so it's virtually impossible to see anything. Suddenly, out of nowhere, a horrifying looking alien creature appears in the water right in front of him.

What makes this scene even scarier is that nobody notices it except for the audience. The boys keep on swimming, completely unaware that this thing is there ready to strike. It was swimming there from the start of the scene, too, but nobody had any idea. The next time you go in the ocean after a viewing of V/H/S 2, it's hard to shake this fear of a creature lurking in the water completely unbeknownst to everyone.
