15 Most Underrated Movies Of 2018
9. Outlaw King
Rotten Tomatoes Score: 63% (6.2/10)
There's absolutely no denying that David Mackenzie's (Hell or High Water) historical epic failed to live up to its initial awards hype, but outside of the Oscar circus, Outlaw King is still a damn fine movie.
Its reputation - namely by way of its Rotten Tomatoes score - was dented by a calamitous premiere at TIFF, but after Mackenzie went back into the editing room to remove roughly 20 minutes of footage, the transformation is said to have been significant.
And though Outlaw King's critical reception now skews broadly positive, it still under-represents the Robert the Bruce biopic's terrific performances - especially from Chris Pine and Aaron Taylor-Johnson - and grand filmmaking craft.
Don't be put off by the lukewarm reviews: this is an enticingly bloody slice of historical drama and one of Netflix's more compelling recent Originals.
