15 Most WTF Movies Of 2018
12. Revenge
Arguably the best rape-revenge film ever made, Coralie Fargeat's stunning directorial debut takes the genre's usual formula and gives it a neat feminist flip, not only turning the tables on the aggressors as expected, but also subverting the "male gaze" aspect these films usually indulge in.
Revenge's first act is all about lingering shots at the gorgeous Matilda Lutz's firm bod, but once she's raped and left for dead, the leering camerawork goes away and we follow Lutz's Jen on a journey of self-discovery as she transforms from prey to predator.
Revenge is not a movie for those with a weak stomach, but if you can handle not only rape but also queasy blood-letting, this is a sublimely visceral experience. It also takes a bold left-turn into surreal territory at one point, and you know what? It totally works.
