Assassination Nation is probably the only movie ever made that begins with a trigger warning, and it's perfectly indicative of what kind of film it is.

A wilfully OTT thriller about a group of four young women who end up fighting for their lives following the fallout of a city-wide phone hack, this might be 2018's most of-the-moment movie, at least in terms of how young people live in a social media-saturated universe.

Things quickly get cartoonish, for sure, but comparing online mob mentality to the Salem witch trials is a neat - if unsubtle - touch, and the ensemble cast fully commits to its blackly comic vision.

If you want to know about the social pressures facing teens today or just want to see some gross men get absolutely destroyed, this is the movie for you.

The most WTF thing of all, though? Despite its ferociously woke, feminist anger, Assassination Nation was actually written and directed by a man, Sam Levinson (father of famed director Barry).
