15 Obscure Horror Films You Need To See

12. Creepozoids

Inside Horror
Empire Pictures

Creepozoids is pure, undiluted B-movie fun, with an unabashed intent to scare viewers and wow them with some half decent monster special effects. Released in 1987 to the kind of derision you'd expect from an era of critics still reeling from a certain Ridley Scott game changer, the film found a home on VHS, usually at the back of a petrol station or in the dreaded bargain bin.

Ticking all genre boxes - band of nuclear survivors? Check; abandoned laboratory? You've got it; a gooey monster? Of course - the film makes good on its Alien affections thanks to some efficient direction from helmer David DeCoteau and a plot that is much more claustrophobic than you'd expect.

Still wriggling its way into viewers' hearts as a cult feature that deserves a watch, the film found some deserved attention in the nineties when it was given the remake treatment in the form of Hybrid. Best give that one a miss, though.
