15 Original Upcoming Movies Which Might Save Hollywood
7. Sausage Party
Release Date: June 3, 2016 (US) / June 17, 2016 (UK) What It's About: In the world of Sausage Party, the foods residing in a supermarket are desperate to be bought, under the mistaken belief that this will be beneficial to them (rather than, you know, being eaten). However, when they wind up lost and must find their way back to the store before the Fourth of July celebrations kick off, their entire "life" plans are thrown into disarray. Why It Can Save Hollywood: Because how many R-rated animated films are there with a decent budget and fantastic cast to boot? Joining the party are Seth Rogen (as a sausage called Frank, naturally), Jonah Hill, James Franco, Kristen Wiig, Ed Norton, Michael Cera, David Krumholtz, Nick Kroll, Salma Hayek, Bill Hader (yes, again, an animated film with Bill Hader), Craig Robinson, Paul Rudd and Danny McBride. As if it wasn't weird enough already, it's being directed by Greg Tiernan, a guy best known for making episodes of Thomas the Tank Engine, and slightly more promisingly, he's teaming with Conrad Vernon, who directed Shrek 2, Monsters vs. Aliens and Madagascar 3. Sure, animation is a whole new venture for Rogen and his long-time creative partner Evan Goldberg, but given their (mostly) successful track record to date and the disarming precedent the movie could set for adult animation, it's almost impossible not to be thrilled about the potential.
