15 Predictions For 2014 Movies Everybody Got Wrong

4. Jersey Boys Will Be Clint Eastwood's Best Film In Years

The Prediction: Clint Eastwood taking on the musical genre might not sound like the snuggest fit in the world, but given that he's adapting the life story of Frankie Valli and the Four Seasons, which is intertwined with the New Jersey crime scene, it sounded right up the director's street. Trailers asserted a Goodfellas-esque tone, and given that Clint's last few directorial efforts, such as J. Edgar (43%) and Hereafter (46%), haven't exactly lit up cinema screens, this seemed like a fine return to form for the actor-turned-filmmaker. The Reality: Though competently made, well-acted and benefiting from the pleasure of Valli's toe-tapping tunes, Jersey Boys is a mostly by-the-numbers musical biopic, simply going through the motions and shot through with a bizarre anonymity that bears few hallmarks of an Eastwood picture. Critical reviews were decidedly mixed (53%), and it seemed like the potential for a masterpiece had been mostly squandered. Eastwood's more recent release, American Sniper, did however score 75%, his best reviews since 2008's Gran Torino.
