15 Problems Nobody Wants To Admit About 2015's Biggest Movies
11. The Hunger Games: Mockingjay Part 2 Will Suffer With Its PG-13 Rating
One of the major controversies surrounding the Hunger Games movie franchise to date is how such a brutally violent series of books can be adapted into a rather tepid series of PG-13-rated movies. The series has approached this issue with varied results to date, ranging from the visually incoherent shaky-cam of the original movie to the more artful effort in the last two films. The final movie, Mockingjay Part 2, faces an altogether more cumbersome challenge when it attempts to adapt the brutal second half of the last book. Without giving away any spoilers, the deaths in this final portion are swiftly violent and difficult to paper over with a PG-13-rated movie, so director Francis Lawrence is going to have to get inventive, to find a way to depict the brutality of these scenes in a way that's palatable to the young-adult crowd. It's possible that the end result could feel messy and neutered, and above all else, it probably won't match the savage vision of the source material.
