15 Terrible Mistakes That Almost Ruined Terminator For Everyone
10. "I Hate Machines" (Terminator 3: Rise Of The Machines)
Within 10 seconds of meeting future resistance lieutenant Kate Brewster (Claire Danes), she's already annoyed the hell out of everyone thanks to one incredibly heavy-handed line of dialogue. She's in a department store with her fiancee Scott, and when a barcode scanner doesn't work, she declares, "I hate machines." It's such a lazily set-up line to demonstrate that Brewster probably isn't going to get along with the T-800 very well, plus, who in real life ever refers to a barcode scanner as a "machine"? Most people would probably say "I hate technology" or "I hate computers", neither of which sound especially great either, but they don't seem quite as ham-fisted and forced as what they went with. It's classically cringe-worthy dialogue, thrown in simply to reference a word from the movie's title, though it really just plays as patronising and dumb.
