15 Truly Terrible Villainous Performances From Awesome Actors

9. Oscar Isaac - X-Men: Apocalypse

X-men Apocalypse

Apocalypse is the world's first mutant and a destructive, super-human force who is one of the most powerful comic book villains in history, so why does he never feel like a threat at all?

Isaac is an incredible actor who has been going from strength to strength over the past few years, so this role is a relatively rare flop for him. Since he's smothered under layers of make-up, he isn't given a chance to do any real acting and, like so many underwhelming villainous roles, his performance comes down to a vaguely sinister voice and nothing else.

The X-Men franchise has actually done quite well in regards to villains, since they've got two brilliant incarnations of Magneto, Colonel Stryker from X2 and even Peter Dinklage's Bolivar Trask, so they're usually OK on this front even if Ajax from Deadpool was truly awful. Unfortunately, this one was more like one of the MCU's terrible villains and since he's not menacing or threatening at all, the film considerably lacks any stakes.

It's a major shame that Isaac was not only stuck in one of the worst X-Men films, but also played the worst villain of the main franchise.
