15 Truly Terrible Villainous Performances From Awesome Actors
7. Jesse Eissenberg - Batman Vs. Superman
Well, everyone hated this one.
Jesse Eissenberg is very talented and has given many great performances, most notably in The Social Network. While that is arguably his greatest performance, this is easily his worst performance and it's even worse than his insufferable work in 2013's Now You See Me.
The initial backlash to this casting reminds one of the initial backlash to the announcement that Heath Ledger had been cast as the Joker. Of course, that went better than anyone could've dreamed, while this was the just as awful as everyone predicted. This incarnation of Lex Luthor, who was badly-written and didn't seem to have any actual goal, didn't feel true to the character at all and seemed like a combination of Jar Jar Binks and Jim Carrey's Riddler. Eissenberg clearly thought he was playing a different villain and turns in an annoying, laughably fear-free performance in an already terrible movie.
Judging by his very brief turn in Justice League, he doesn't seem to have sorted this performance out yet. Maybe they should just recast the role and not ruin poor Eissenberg's dignity any further?
