Wonder Woman might be on the verge of release, but it's still incredible that it's taken this long to get a film starring the Amazonian legend. It's even more incredible that such an inexperienced actress should be given the lead and should be so hotly received.

Cynics might have said she's a model primarily and an actress as a secondary concern, but the early reactions to the film suggest that her performance is key to the film's success (and that she's on a par with Chris Pine, whose never been accused of just being a pretty face).

Why that would be a surprise remains to be seen, given that Gadot's brief part in Batman v Superman was classed as a positive even in the eyes of the most cynical viewers. That performance was enough to give Wonder Woman an early shot in the arm well before anyone could complain online about under-representation in the marketing campaign. And it's great to see she's being so well received in the final film.
