15 Upcoming Films That Could Score 0% On RottenTomatoes
8. Jem & The Holograms
The Pitch: A live-action reboot of the Hasbro toy line and classic 1980s animated TV series, in which Jerrica Benton (Aubrey Peeples) along with her sister and her two friends, strive to become pop music icons. Why It Could Score 0%: For one, original Jem writer Christy Marx has zero involvement with the project, and though the trailer does offer a few self-aware moments that mock the modern music industry (suggesting Juliette Lewis may give the single good performance in this movie), it just doesn't look or feel much like the Jem fans know and love. The somewhat eccentric premise of the source material has basically been toned down and streamlined into a generic coming-of-age movie to appeal to the widest tween audience possible, having little in common with the TV show beyond its name and a few basic aspects of its aesthetic. It might work well enough for younger viewers who aren't even aware of the original, but critics will be ready to pounce on what basically looks like a re-skinned Hannah Montana. Release Date: October 23 (US), December 26 (UK)
