15 Upcoming Horror Films You Should Be Excited About

Trick 'r Treat should have become the next big horror franchise. Studios are always looking for a horror series to release a sequel to every Halloween (Saw, Paranormal Activity), but usually that involves stretching the story out year after year as the plot gets dumber and dumber.

But Trick 'r Treat would be the perfect franchise for making a new one every year or two. Because it's a horror anthology, every movie can be completely different with no need to expand a thin plot with every sequel. The only connection would be that each one takes place on Halloween and involves the lovable pumpkin-headed Sam. 

Unfortunately, the original Trick 'r Treat never even made it to theaters, so for years it seemed like that wasn't to be. But then in 2013, Trick 'r Treat 2 was officially announced! It's finally, really happening! There haven't been many updates since then, and as of October 2013 there wasn't even a script yet. Michael Dougherty has been hard at work on Krampus for a while now, so it seems like Trick 'r Treat 2 wouldn't hit until October 2017 or so, maybe October 2016 if Dougherty can really rush it.

But it doesn't even matter when it comes out. Just the fact that it's in the works at all is some of the most exciting horror news ever. Long live Sam!
