15 Upcoming Movies That Might Be Surprisingly Awesome
13. Pirates Of The Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales
Release Date: May 26, 2017
Why It Should Suck: It's the fifth film in a series most people wish was put out to pasture at least two movies ago, and yet The Johnny Depp Show returns for another round of high-budget nonsense, written by the chap responsible for Speed 2: Cruise Control and Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull.
The previous film pulling in an insane $1.046 billion always made number five a guarantee, but is there actually a story worth telling this time?
Why It Might Be Awesome: Pretty much all hope for this movie being remotely decent, yet alone awesome, rests with directors Joachim Rønning and Espen Sandberg, whose Oscar-nominated film Kon-Tiki makes them a perfect fit for material like this.
Also, in fairness, it's worth mentioning that the writer, Jeff Nathanson, was also behind the likes of Catch Me If You Can and The Terminal, so he's nothing if not inconsistent. There's every chance this could be one of his good scripts.
And it's got Paul McCartney in some kind of secret cameo that's apparently had a lot of money spent on it. How can you not like that?
