6. Criminal

The geriaction genre, which features older movie stars kicking ass, has been kind to some (Liam Neeson, Stallone) but not so much to others; anyone watch The Gunman with Sean Penn? Kevin Costner gave it a try in 2016 with Criminal, where he plays a sociopath given the brain of Ryan Reynolds deceased spy, for reasons far too silly to explain.

It’s such a daft idea it almost works, combining a hard-edged thriller where Costner is a massive a**hole to everyone, but when Reynolds memories kick in, especially concerning his wife and daughter, it turns into a sugary drama. The plot is regularly yelled at the audience by Gary Oldman in paycheck mode, and Tommy Lee Jones looks genuinely confused as to why he’s even there.

It’s not great, but it gets marks for being so delightfully daft.

Handsome. Charismatic. Intelligent. Noble. Witty. I'm none of these things, but I'm a half decent writer, I guess.
