15 Worst Months To Go To The Movies Since The Year 2000
8. September 2008
Number Of Movies Released: 15 Rotten Tomatoes Average: 39% Number of Movies Receiving Lower Than 40%: 8 The month of September is usually when Hollywood and movie audiences begin to experience a bit of a hangover after going through the extreme highs (and lows) of all the summer blockbusters. Occasionally, though, you do get a handful of movies that wind up becoming major players during awards season. September 2008 had no such movies. While The Coen Brothers' comedy Burn After Reading was solid, the month was mostly filled with head-scratchers. There was Bangkok Dangerous, which starred Nicolas Cage; Righteous Kill, which starred Robert Deniro, Al Pacino, and 50 Cent; and My Best Friend's Girl, which starred Dane Cook and Jason Biggs - all of these films were widely panned. Though, on the plus side, this was around the time when Hollywood stopped giving Dane Cook anymore leading roles. I always figured when Nicolas Cage was given the script for Bangkok Dangerous and the producers tried explaining what it was about, he simply stopped them and said: "You had me at Bangkok Dangerous."
