4. Killing The Alien - 10 Cloverfield Lane
10 Cloverfield Lane was one of the true surprises of 2016; a taut suspense thriller with great performances, in addition to being a spiritual sequel to Cloverfield. That said, it’s hard to escape the feeling it loses steam once the main character escapes the bunker, and realises there actually are evil aliens running the world.
It devolves in a suspense-free action scene, which climaxes with her in a jeep that’s about to be swallowed by an alien butthole. Due to some quick thinking, she grabs a bottle of booze and makes a Molotov cocktail, tossing it into the buttholes mouth and causing it to explode.
This entire scene reeks of reshoots and feels bolted on from a less interesting film. This crappy showdown isn’t enough to spoil 10 Cloverfield Lane, but it’s a shame it felt the need to force it in.
