15 Worst Performances In 2016 Films (So Far)
9. Russell Crowe - The Nice Guys
One of the most over-rated movies of 2016 so far with a staggering 91% rating on Rotten Tomatoes, The Nice Guys stars Ryan Gosling alongside Russell Crowe in a buddy comedy that evokes a bygone era of film. Set in 1970s Los Angeles, the pair play a local enforcer and a private detective who team up to solve the murder of a fading porn star and find a girl on the run from her mother.
While Crowe and Gosling clearly enjoy themselves in what is a pretty fun film at times, the latter manages to have a good time with his role while still putting in a top class performance, something Russell Crowe hasn't managed for quite some time. The Gladiator star seems comfortable as the hulking menace he seems to be in the opening stages, though when the comedy set-ups start coming thick and fast he fails to keep up the pace.
The New Zealand-born actor looks cumbersome in a number of scenes, and some of his acting (his reaction to stumbling across a corpse slumped up against a tree trunk is straight to TV bad, especially when compared to Gosling's) cheapens what should be the stand-out moments in the film.
