12. "I Could Tell He Was Dead Straight Off..."
The dialogue overall is a thing of absolute beauty. Fury himself only speaks if he's saying something that should be emblazoned across the chest of a T-shirt, and there are some genuinely hilarious moments of comedy.
That can't quite be said of the knock-knock joke Fury uses on the evil kung fu master who kills his partner - ("Who's there?" "Knock... les.) - but the cliched sequence that shows how his partner (who - inevitably - was like a father to him) has the film's funniest line.
After arresting the master they encounter in a back alley (his crime is unclear, so perhaps his reaction is fair enough), Fury's partner is rather unfortunately sliced in two, leaving his tongue literally hanging. But instead of over-playing the grim gore, Fury greets it in voice-over with the simply glorious:
"I could tell he was dead, straight off."
